Injections

by usafwife08, Jul 16, 2008 03:29PM
So I'm wondering about injections after clomid. What do they put you on, what is it supposed to do, the cost without insuarance? If anyone can help I would appreciate it. The clomid doesn't seem to be working.

Hello! how long have you been taking clomid and at what dose?? have they been monitoring your follicles by ultrasound and hormone levels??  some people switch from clomid to another oral med - femara and have good luck,, it tends not to thin the lining and not to strip away cervical mucus like clomid.. some peoples bodies like one more than the other!
as far as injectables.. we did follistim (low dose due to my age and pcos) and got preg with IUI.. we did combine it with femara as well.. did the injections every other day... and femara daily for 5 days.. the shots are painless, and very easy to use!    we used the company IVPcare and the cost seemed to be way better than a lot of places, i cant' remember if it was $200 something or $300 something.. but i know it can run up to 800 or so.. they have some plan if your insurance doesn't cover injectables that makes them more affordable.. Have you tried IUI?? GOOD LUCK and let me know if you have any questions!

I am starting follistim and fermara on Friday. This is the second round of the IUI's and the fermara, but the first round of the follistim.

How was the follistim on your body?

The fermara was easy on mine, no sudden changes or mood swings. which I was grateful for.

The follistim wasn't bad to use at all! painless and prettty error proof! ( i gave my shots to myself in my stomach) the only side effect i had at all from the follistim was headaches towards the last day of using them.. i never get headaches and it was pretty bad, so i looked online and seems like its a pretty common side effect.. no hot flashes or anything else though and we got our first BFP that way! Lots of people get their BFPs with injectables and IUI , hope you'll be one of them very very soon! : ) good luck!

Congrats on the BFP! I have been a bit nervous with the injectables as being here in AZ insurance covers diddley squat. The last price check we did was in May and it was $57 for 75IU of meds for the shot.

They want me to take 1 pill of fermara on CD3-7 and follistim CD3, Cd5 and CD7, with an ultra sound on CD10, and IUI depending on size of follicles. It's exciting! I'm just curious about the side effects of the meds. . . .

Did you get your BFP with the first try? If not how was AF afterwards?

THANKS for the best wishes!!!!

That sounds exactly like what we did! we did 100iu of folistim the first day (cd3) then 75iu two more days.. (and femara cd3-7, with follistim every other day) and then had the ultrasound on cd10, had three good follies (i only have one working ovary : (   so i wished i would have had double that!)  then one more shot of follistim that night 50iu.. we got preg the first cycle using it! we were actually moving to IVF that next month and me and dh had completely give up hope! we have so many issues, we techincally didnt' even qualify for IUI.. were told that IVF with icsi would be the only way.. but at my IVF consult i was on cd2 so my RE wanted to "test run" the injectables before IVF and wanted to give IUI one more try! we were SHOCKED and overjoyed!
unfortuantely miscarried this past week at 9.5 weeks due to a blighted ovum.. grrrrr! so frustrating! but at least we got preg and know my body can get preg and stay preg a little while! so as soon as AF comes we'll be back to femara + follistim and IUI again!
we used IVPcare , if your insurance doesnt' cover injectables (which ours doesn't) then they give a discount typically.. so it was  a decent price.. but wow $57 is GREAT!!!!!
  GOOD LUCK! keep me updated!

I am sooooooooo sorry to hear about you m/c. I can't imagine trying so hard and then have a m/c. I'm sorry! I pray this next round works for you guys! I know how much we want it, I can understand how much others want it as well!

I'm glad to hear that $57 is a great price. I haven't really priced that particular medicine.

With just the fermara last try I had 3 good follies (all from the right side. . .  as far as we know both of them work.) There were 24 million sperm which is great but for some reason it was a no go. It's hard to think that my body can acually get pregnant. All the ingedients but no product.

Now they are adding the follistim which we pray will help.

Wow, thats a great response from the femara!   I'm sure you'll have a really good one from the follistim!!  it takes a lot of people 3 or so tries with IUI to get a BFP....and SO many get one with the injectables! : )   even though it only takes one, the chances can be higher with more, so i hope this will do the trick for yall!!!
yea it totally sucked to have tried for so long and so much.. and then finally get good news to only get bad news yet again.. we cant' seem to catch a break! its seemed like a cruel joke.. but hey i just try to tell myself there are worse things that could happen.. there are always other options at least we are alive and healthy and I have been blessed with an amazing dh!

GOOD LUCK!!!! keep me updated! your in my prayers!

by Griggsy, Jul 16, 2008 05:18PM
Thank you for the prayers!!

You keep me posted as well!!!! Where are you at right with what you're doing?

by bny807, Jul 16, 2008 05:24PM
still miscarrying.. toward the end of that ( i hope!) i would defintley go back and have  a D&C instead of doing this whole natural miscarriage thing, it was horrible!    so we'll wait for AF to come (who knows when that will be!) and then we'll start back on follistim and femara with IUI's... hopefully we'll have some luck.. i have severe endo so each month it doesnt' work the endo gets worse i guess. so we are in a race against time!   thanks!
