Enlarged Left Atrium, lung granuloma

by JulieP31, Jul 16, 2008 09:51PM
Not sure which topic to put this question under but here it goes in the "other" topic section!

I am a 39 y/o female.  For about 7 months I have been having a difficult time with breathing while exercising, walking up stairs, when bending forward (such as bend to weed my flower bed), and have felt like I need to take deep breaths when sitting doing nothing just to feel like my lungs were full.  I was put on albuterol inhaler (which didn't help) by my primary care doctor and sent for a chest x-ray.  The chest xray showed a 3 mm granuloma on the right side of the xray.  This got me sent to see a pulmonologist for possible pulmonary hypertension.  I have been working out with a personal trainer since January 2008, I was told by the pulmonologist not to get my heart rate about 120 when working out.  After much discussion about my health history with the pulmonologist I was sent for an Echocardiogram.  The echo showed no signs of pulmonary hypertension.  It did however show an enlarged left atrium and trivial MR.  My father was diagnosed with heart disease at age 39 also, he has had bypass surgery and numerous other treatments for his heart.  His initial diagnosis was angina.  I guess my question is how serious is an enlarged left atrium and could this be what has contributed to my breathing problems?  What is the treatment for such condition?  Is it a serious condition that could worsen?  I still don't have an answer as to what the 3 mm lung granuloma is either.  Any help, please?
