Braxton hicks???????????

by stokie, Jul 17, 2008 05:01AM
Is it possible i could be having Braxton Hicks? I'm nearly 33 weeks and have been "belly ache". It feels like all the muscles in my belly are tightening but they dont seem to be relaxing. Is it just me or is this normal? Baby moves around alot and i was wondering if it has anything to do with her not keeping still. This "belly ache" seems to happen most of the time when i'm lying in bed. Please help.

you can get braxton hicks contractions at any stage during your pregnancy (i had them from 16 weeks with both of mine).  They usually become more frequent and slightly more uncomfortable as you get closer to your due date which is what might be happening too you.  You may have had them prior this but not noticed as they were not as bad.  They should not be too painful but more uncomfortable when the muscles tighten and your belly becomes really hard.  I don't think it has anthing to do with how much the baby moves but more your body practising for the real thing.  Try not to worry but if you are concerned call your doc and ask their advice.

braxton hicks or even real contractions wont' feel like a typical belly ache.  BH may be completely painless but it will feel like your uterus is balling up for a few to several seconds and releasing....some babies tend to move a lot after a contraction.  It's completely normal to have them and they may very increase in frequency as you get further along.  It's your body's way of "practicing" for the big event.
