right eye tremor - now pins and needles on rt foot

by ambaumis, Jul 17, 2008 06:28AM
Dear Community,  Please give me some feedback.  I am panic stricken and slight hypochondriac.
For the last 3 weeks I have had a lower eye spasm or tremor in my right eye.  Last week my right foot
began to feel like pins and needles and the muscles feel crampy in the leg.  I have been to an opthamologist who
said my eyes are fine.  In April I had a partial thyroidectomy and have since lost 30 lbs.  I called the
endocrinologist and he told me the blood levels were fine but to discontinue the synthroid for a week.  Still
no change.   I am currently seeing a neurologist who doesn't know.  Can anyone help?  Any ideas?  LEt me add
that I am a school principal and constantly in some type of anxiety situation.  Please answer with some type of
ideas as to what this may be.  Thank you.  Ambaumis

Hi,

How are you? Please try to relax as excessive anxiety and panic attacks can cause pins and needles sensation.
Another cause could be hypothyrodism. Have you started taking synthyroid?
Peripheral neuropathies due to vitamin B12 deficiency, diabetes, nerve compression or entrapment can all cause tingling.
The exact diagnosis can be made only after a clinical exam. Have you undergone any tests?
Please elaborate.

Thank you for answering me so promptly. I am very appreciative of anything you could tell me, it helps me to calm down and understand my symptoms better.  Just to elaborate on my last message..  I have hypothyroidism and have been taking synthroid since Nov. 07, but in April 08 I had a partial removal of my thyroid.  Since that time, I have rapidly lost weight, cannot sleep well and have gotten very jittery.  I have had blood tests which come back normal.  The doctor said that the TSH levels were normal, but asked me to discontinue the synthroid for one week.  Still no change.  I have had an MRI and an EEG - both normal.  As I mentioned earlier, I am extremely overworked, in a difficult marriage and am a school principal.  Do you think that this could all be nerves?  Would it be advisable to seek another neurologist?  I am not happy with the present one.   Let me know your thoughts Dr. Noorpur..  Thank you,  Ambaumis
