Sound Frequency treatment for ADHD

by Alian, Jul 17, 2008 07:50AM
Hello,

My daughter, 12, is finally diagnosed as ADHD. It was hard to tell what she has because as the doctor told me, apparently ADHD girls are less active externally and therefore it is hard to diagnose them as ADHD .

Anyway she started taking Ritalin on last May and no doubt it brought her back to track at school.

The issue is that Ritalin is doing one job quite well and that is great 4-5 hours at school, but it does not treat other problems such as lack of attention and poor concentration after school and during vacations.

My question is: are there any other means to help her be more focused during vacation? Even when she does not need to learn, I can see she is sitting and doing nothing just because she cannot focus.

We started looking for help in natural healing and came across a very interesting treatment  of Sound Frequency treatment.
They are called Healtone (www.healtone.com) and they provide sound files for many problems, amongst them ADHD and ADD. These sounds are quite abstract - far from being music, but they have a very positive effect on my daughter's concentration. After 5 minutes she listens to the sounds she can sit and read something for 30 minutes with no interruption and that happens now during vacation when she doesn't take Ritalin.

Now I can see that she can become more focused without any drug, but it is for short period of time and I am looking for treatment that will help her raise her entire level of concentration.

I asked a natural healer and he said that in time the frequency treatment will help her raising  her level of concentration, but it can be a long process.

Thanks

Alian

I think what you are talking about is similar or the same as Auditory Integration Training.  Which is a combination of treatments/research carried out by Dr Beard and Dr Tomatis.  If you are finding it beneficial I would be interested to hear more about it.  I am in the UK (I presume you are in the States).  My understanding is that if this treatment is useful that there are probably problems with sensory integration and this treatment deals with the auditory ones.  But improving one sense can have a beneficial knock on effect on other senses and behaviours.
This is a treatment I am considering for my son, but there are no funds available at present, so it is on the back burner as something to try.  But I would be interested to know how you do it and for how long and what type of sounds they are and how your daughter reacts to this therapy.

Hello  Sally, It is not the Tomatis method. I have heard about Tomatis and as far as I know there they play classical music. These sounds she listens to are not music, they are quite abstract and as far as I understand they are a way to send specific frequencies to the body through sound.

I called a  Tomatis center and the reason I did not go was that it was too far to travel and too expensive. The ADHD sound  is a one time payment of 14.95 US Dollars and its yours forever.
