Loss of feeling in previous burn areas

by Auraomega, Jul 17, 2008 02:29PM
I was burned quite badly a couple of months ago, taking a look at the guide for burns on here, it was 2nd degree. The burns covered my arms, some of my face, neck, chest and shoulders, and while most of it healed properly my shoulders have continued to have a red look to them with white blotches, and are itchy, sore and still warm to the touch.

The feeling in my shoulders is also strange, its not "natural" for example if I scratch it with my nails instead of feeling a small sharpish sensation I feel a rather large area of pressure, not unlike rubbing with the palm of a hand. This unnatural feeling is also causing my some discomfort as I know its not how it should feel, its more of a mental issue.

At the centre of the burns I have no feeling at all, as I go futher from the centre I start to get the above feelings, and when I reach the edge of the area, it becomes sore and sensitive.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems, and if the feeling will ever be regained or not?

Thanks.

Hi

I understand your concern. Your symptoms sound nerve related and this definitely is associaed with the burn. Nerve endings were damaged and this could have led to your symptoms. I suggest that you have yourself refereed to a rehabilitation medicine specialist. You may need physical therapy sessions that would help relieve your symptoms. A neurology referral may also help so that a complete neurological examination may be need.

Are the burns healed already?
