Elevated liver enzymes in a 16 year old.

by sidnacus, Jul 17, 2008 02:56PM
I took my son 16yrs old to a clinic today because he has been having chest pain for about three days, he also exhibits general malaise, and excessive thirst.  He is very active in sports and weight lifting.  According to the primary care physician my son has gained 50lbs over the last year.  He does not take any protein/creatine supplements.  His vitals are WNL's, fasting glucose 90, however, his liver enzymes are elevated, ALT 88, AST >3000 at 3329.  I would not think that weight lifting would cause AST elevations to this extent.  I am very concerned for his health.  Do you have any thoughts you can lend.  He was told to rest for one week then return to the clinic to recheck labs.
