MS or What else - Dr's, Anyone?

by snookle, Jul 17, 2008 05:43PM
Got records today.  ANA negative along with all the autoimmune test - sarcoid, sogrens sp? etc.
All myasthenia stuff negative.  The only things that stuck out were the MRI of head =  minimal T2 and FLAIR hyperintensity in occipital periventricular white matter, CSF negative for bands but Protein slightly elevated (47),  Nerve conduction study = bilateral peroneals revealed slightly prolonged distal motor latencies, and Neuro's exam that had findings of slight decreased vibratory and position sense at ankles, slightly positive Romberg.
Still having symptoms and Dr. has dismissed me with exception of repeat MRI in 6 mo.  What should I do?  I know something is wrong with me.  Getting weird eye symptoms such as scratchy, fullness to R eye, ocassional blurred vision that lasts for seconds only, pressure to R orbital rims.
If this is MS - I want on meds for prevention, not just wait 6 mo. and get worse.

Were you tested for lyme disease?

Hi,

How are you?
The diagnosis of MS is not an easy one and often difficult to make. Two or more episodes of neurological symptoms, positive MRI findings and positive CSF test results.
Other diseases which mimic MS are Sjogrens syndrome which has been ruled out in your case, migraine and small strokes which can produce similar changes on MRI.
I would advise you to please seek a second opinion on this. Keep us posted!

Since you are having so much eye problems, have you considered seeing a Neuro-Opthalmologist??  I think I got that name right, not sure.  My understanding is that this would be a doctor who is both a Neurologist and an eye doctor.

Personally, in your case, this is the doctor I would want to see.... who, rather than simply looking for a diagnosis of MS, would look for whatever might be causing your eye symptoms (and a solution).

God Bless!
Amy

Dr. Thank you so much for your response.  At times I feel I need a tsecond opinion and other times I feel I am crazy.  Eye symptoms started again today, usualy do before flair up.  Saw Ophthamologist and he said everything looks great from an anatomy POV.  I have great vision, but, he said I have gone from a .75 to a 1.75 since October.  Is this a signifiant finding with other syptoms or just another piece to a difficult puzzle?
Thanks again,
L

Hi,

How are you?
You have a  weak eyesight that’s all since your no. has gone up from 0.75 to 1.75.

Hope you are using glasses or contacts, because if you are not you can very well get the eye symptoms that you are describing.
