AredNuclear stress test and Cardio Rubidium PET scan the same

by maryfil, Jul 17, 2008 09:14PM

hi there.
I have not seen a cardiologist maybe for like 3 years although I had my annual physicals.
I had ASD surgery about 7 years ago and so far I am feeling good except lately I felt some kind of chest pain. So my Primary care physician referred me to this Cardiologist.
This doctor recommended the nuclear stress test, which I took.
When I went in the next week for the results the doctor told me that I have to have another test and he scheduled me right away. He wanted to be sure if there is blockage as he  has seen some kind of shadow on the stress test picture. I can’t explain technically. He said could be a blockage or a scarring from the surgery.
So I took the Cardio Rubidium 2 PET SCAN (sorry for the misspellings as I do not have the order slip now). It was a horrible experience. While the technician was administering the vial, I felt some uneasiness. And when its done, I was dizzy and shaking when I got up, my stomach hurt and I felt sick. I was just in pain all over. A doctor in the facility has to attend to me and gave a shot of a pain relieve or something.

My questions are, are not the two tests the same or would the nuclear stress test not reveal a blockage? Should I undergo that Rubidium test and was it necessary? I hope you can enlighten me on this. Thanks.
