Intercostal muscle pain

by creatiive, Jul 17, 2008 10:20PM
For the past few years since i recovered from TB my fitness has been pretty bad.
Over this time i have periodically decided to start up running again to regain
some fitness.... but every time i have tried, within about 3-4 minutes of running i
get a sharp pain in my left lung.  It starts quite quickly and soon gets to the stage where
im only able to do tiny little breath's... as breathing in fully hurts too much... and it
feels like my lungs are tiny!  Always after 3-4 minutes, and always in the exact same place.

I wasn't sure if it was my lung or my heart because of the location.
I finally mentioned it to the doctor and he said its intercostal muscle cramp and i should try
stretching the area or running through it.  The stretching does nothing and i find it
impossible to run through... as im only able to inhale a tiny amount without the pain, and
it is too much for me to run though  (i find it crippling! And i have to immediately stop)

Is there anything anyone can reccommend for intercostal muscle cramp?
Its just ive never had it since i had TB, and its always after the same amount of time, and
in the exact same place!
