What is causing a burning ear pain and a numbing/tingling sensation on my cheek

by Jimmy4960, Jul 17, 2008 10:32PM
I have had constant right ear pain for over two months. The pain is a burning feeling deep in my inner ear.I have also had a numbness/tingling sensation on my right cheek as well. The cheek numbness started first. I have a history of sinusitus. My ENT could see nothing in my ear. A CT scan showed my sphenoid sinus completely opacfied. My ENT performed surgery (My 4th sinus surgery over the past 20 years.) The surguery did nothing to aleviate the ear pain. Before the results of the CT showed that my sinus where blocked, I was put on a medrol pack 21dose - 4 mg. This significantly reduced my ear pain, but as I was weaned off the steroid, say on day 5 the pain steadly increased. I have been placed on these medrol packs for 5 straight weeks (at my request) because it did more to reduce the pain than loritab or darvacet. I have met with my ENT and reported that my pain continues even after surgery and he now has referred me on to a neurologist. I did some research and found something called Ramsay Hunt Syndrone which is related to the herpes virus and shnigles. I did have an outbreak of shingles on my forhead approximately one year prior to this ongoing current ear pain. Could this ear pain/ facial numbness be related to something to to with shingles and that is why I feel the pain lessen when taking a steroid?

This discussion is related to facial numbness.
