face rash

by dinky62965, Jul 17, 2008 10:39PM
i have had a rash that is on the outside of each nostral and angles down from each side for about three years now.  it gets small bumps sometimes like pimples with clear stuff in them sometimes and itches sometimes.  I have been tole by one doctor that it is roseacia but the rosecia medicine made it itch worse and did not cure it.  I have also been told by another that it was not that and given a steroid cream which cures it but not for very long.  I use flonase nasal spray but had for years before the rash showed up with no problem.  It is worse in summer that winter but still there a little then too.

Hi

This may be case of perioral dermatitis. In perioral dermatitis," the areas most affected are within the borders of the lines from the nose, to the sides of the lips, and the chin. There is frequent sparing of a small band of skin that borders the lips. Occasionally, the areas around the nose, eyes, and cheeks can be affected. Sometimes there is mild itching or burning."

There is no definite treatment for perioral dermatitis. The cause of this is not well defined. I suggest that you continue with the topical corticosteroid creams during flares. As the redness or scaling subsides then you may stop. Avoid prolonged use of the steroids. Also, you may need oral antibiotics for this especially if rosacea is suspected.
