dry socket?

What is the longest time a dry socket has lasted?  I actually felt bone in the socket but I'm not sure if it's bone or tooth.  Can you tell me the difference?   Today makes a week that I've been in this pain.  The tooth next to the extraction is not hurting also, but it wasn't hurting before I went.  the dentist put me on amoxacillin and i'm taking 800mg of ibuprofren.  Thank you for receiving my questioon and have a  :>) day    rick714

I'm not sure whats the longest time a dry socket has lasted.  Generally it can last a week or two depending on the body's ability to heal.

Are you diagnosed with dry socket?

Has the pain increased/decreased or stayed the same since the extraction?

The pain in the next tooth (I'm assuming you're saying that it IS hurting) may be just referred pain coming from the area.

If you're not sure, I would recommend seeing your dentist for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

when I went back he said it was a dry socket, then he wrote me out a script for amoxacillen and he gave me 800mg ibuprofren because I requested them.  The tooth next to it appears now to be black in color.  I tried to tell him, but it seemed as if he was skirting the issue.  When I went to the pharmacy the pharmacist said that my tooth was black.  And there was nothing wrong with it before I went.  I think this guy made a mistake.  Then when I confronted him again about the tooth I still have he said he had to use that tooth for leverage.  Does that sound right to you?  Bottomline:  What started out as a filling has turned into a fiasco, and now I have two problems instead of one.  When I tap the black tooth it hurts alot

If you are having issues with your current health care provider and are unable to come to a resolution, you may want to seek a second opinion elsewhere.
