Delayed radiation treatment

by sfenley1, Jul 18, 2008 10:09AM
During an emergency surgery for a infected benign infarcted uterine myoma, cervcal cancer, IIB was discovered.  A radical hysterectomy was performed at the time, and no lymph node involvement was found.  During the surgery, the scraping of adhesions resulted in a ureter injury manifesting itself c. 2 weeks after surgery, in septic shock, and ultimately a stent in the ureter.  My radiation therapy has now been delayed about 7 months from diagnosis, and I have had 5 mos of chemo with carb and taxol.  Is there any way to quantify my 5 year survival rate now vs if I had started the radiation concurrent to chemo as was initially proposed?
Thanks,
Susan

Hi,

How are you?
The five year survival rates depend upon the bulk of the primary tumor and also on patient factors like general health and response to treatment.
Many studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of radiotherapy given in conjunction with chemotherapy.

The exact change in the 5 year survival rate is very difficult to quantify. Let me know if you need any other information. Take care!
