Chapped lips

by julie12702, Jul 18, 2008 11:08AM
Every 4 or 5 months I wake up to my lips burning. But it’s never my actual lips burning. It’s the tiny area around the lips. Between the regular skin and the lips. It hurts constantly. I usually buy blistex medicated balm with spf 15. It sooths it for about 20 mins and I have to reapply. I sometimes have to wake up in the middle of the night to reapply. It takes about 3-4 weeks to go away. Anyone have any ideas to relieve the pain?

Hi,
Do you have any other signs and symptoms? Burning mouth syndrome causes chronic burning pain in your mouth. The pain may affect your lips, tongue, gums, inside of your cheeks, roof of your mouth, or widespread areas of your whole mouth. The pain from burning mouth syndrome typically has several different patterns. Treatment depends on your particular signs and symptoms, as well as any underlying conditions. Drink plenty of  fluids. and avoid products with cinnamon, mint, spicy-hot foods, and acidic foods and liquids, such as tomatoes, orange juice, soft drinks and coffee. This link may be helpful:

Take care and keep us posted.

Hello,

No other signs or symptoms. Just the lips. No where inside my mouth is burning or hurting in anyway. Not sure what to do.

Thanks,
Julie
