My TSH was .27 then 0.6 ( had 1st blood work done after a meal and 2nd blood work done after fasting), and my nodule was 2.2 cm( which is about 1 inch). I never felt it. Hope this helped.
Hot nodule is hyperfunctioning or taking up more radioactivity than normal thyroid tissue does, taking up the same amount as normal tissue is warm nodule and taking up less is cold nodule. it also says, because cancer is rarely found in holt nodules, a scan showing a hot nodule eliminates the need for fine needle biopsy. If the hot nodule cause hyperthyroidism, it can be treated with radioiodine or surgery.
It also this that thyroid scan or radioiodine treatment should never be given to a pregnant woman.
also, 90-95 % of nodules are benign. thyroid scans show that most thyroid nodules, both benign and malignant, are cold or non functioning. Therefore, although almost all thyroid cancers are non functional on scan, the majority of non functional nodules are benign.
Also, having a scan is of little value unless TSH levels are toward the lower end of the normal range or below range.
Hope this helped. I gotta get back to my work.
