Urinalysis

by bluebell2008, Jul 18, 2008 01:41PM
I had a regular urine test today at the doctor's, as part of an employment medical screen.  I really thought it would be a formality, so, imagine my surprise when it turned out there was blood in the urine (not visible to me); the white blood cell was 70 (which they said was a little high) and the urine was cloudy... couldn't have been much worse...
I don't feel like I've got a UTI, but I may have, I've had chest pains recently (totally out of the blue) and a blister on the side of my tongue but I had an ECG and that was clear and the blister is easing (two months later).  My doctor had said all of that was stress-related.  No clue if these issues are related, but I'm thinking they may be.
My GP will send the urine away for further analysis.  For a `culture', rather, as he puts it.
But it's all quite worrying as I've neve been ill.
Would appreciate some info. if possible or to know if anyone else has experienced this kind of thing.  Thank you.

Hi,
It is good that your ECG was normal. Asymptomatic UTI is a condition wherein there is no symptoms of infection but significant numbers of bacteria have colonized the urinary tract. The condition is harmless in most people and rarely persists, although it does increase the risk for developing symptomatic UTIs. Urine culture is usually done do determine what bacteria is present and what kind of treatment it responds to. This link may be helpful: http://www.aafp.org/afp/20060915/985.html

Take care and keep us posted.
