Questionable Medication!

by gloria1936, Jul 18, 2008 02:50PM
I have been taking Levothyroxine 0.075 for awile now and had my blood test and it showed i was low in the TSH at 0.238 and now gave me a percription of 0.050.
Would I want a higher dosage to raise the THS or will a lower dosage raise it?

hiya gloria

a lower dosage of levo will raise your TSH (as TSH is produced in response to lowered thyroid hormone levels - thyroxine)

a too higher dosage of thyroxine will supress TSH levels and cause hyperthyroid symptoms

i would be able to explain it better if i wasn't suffering from severe hypo at the mo and have brain fog - i'm sure someone out there will explain it properly

so looks like your on the right track :)

Yes - and soory Helen about the hypo - fog

A higher dose of Levo will LOWER your TSH (hyper) and raise your T3

A lower dose of Levo INCREASE your TSH (hypo) and drop your T3. (normally)
