Sorry for your loss and what you have to go threw.

Its the same procedure they do for abortions.

Dilatation and Curettage (D&C). They dialte your cervix with a instrument that is about the same circumfrence as a finger, curettage is scraping, they then scrap the uterus, some dr.s might even use suction.  You can look it up on the internet, you can see the instruments they use also.  I had a missed m/c june 12th and a d&c on the 17th, i didnt want to walk around with my dead baby in my body.

You should do what feels right to you, and ask you dr the risk of waiting to m/c naturally

I have a high pain tolerance, if you choose to be awake, you feel the tugging on your uterus and the sound of the suctioning if they use suction, i rather not remember, it as already hard enough that i had to loss the baby but to see, hear and feel them taking it out wouldve been to much for me. (i had an abortion in 1996 and i was awake for it, bad decision)  Overall, you have cramps that may last a few days, sorta like menstrual cramps.

i had 2 d and c's and was out out both times.  it is just like latrice said, a minor surgery to go in and remove all that is in your uterus.

i did not have barely any pains afterwards, small cramping but nothing that motrin did not take care of.  the doctor also usualyl sends you home with a slightly stronger pain med too, like percocet or vicodin for a couple day supply in case your cramps are bad, but like i said i have had 2 and they were not bad.

sorry for your loss.  it is the worst feeling in the world having a MC, but please take it day by day and use this website to ask any questions you may have and help heal.

i have had 5 m/c and needed to have d&c with all you only in for the day and like the other lady said bit like period pains. even though this is heart breaking you need to have it done so you can grieve for your loss no matter how far you are gone

I also had a D&C, but there was retained tissue, so a few months later I had to have a second one.  Then, I got scar tissue from that, and now have to have a surgery to get the scar tissue removed.  Each D&C was fine, but I had some complications develop because of them.  So, with whatever you decide, just make sure you are aware of potential risks from each.  Good luck!
