20/20 after cataract surgery w/ distance issue

by jaymor, Jul 18, 2008 04:29PM
i had cataract surgery on one eye two weeks ago....fitted with monofocal lens acrysof iq for distance....also have cataracts on other eye......  operated eye sees very well and has been rated at 20/20 by my doctor.....

if really am  20/20 why do i strain to see far.....i.e  street signs are not clear far enough to recognize them before having to make the turn....the same sign is also double visioned sligthly vertically......oddly i can see the dash board sharply and with ease as well as a computer monitor from 18 inches away.....covering  the unoperated eye improves it but very slightly......

am quite happy with my improved vision overall though.....am i asking/expecting too much?

Well you are very observant.  It seems that you are indeed close to 20/20 distance but could probably be made a little better at times by wearing part time glasses, mainly to correct astigmatism.  So no worries.  You are very good overall.
