Zithromax and Birth Control

I just started taking zithromax (5 day pack) and I am taking Ortho Tricyclen Lo so I was wondering at what point I can stop using an alternative birth control method. One doctor told me to wait an entire month after my first dose, while my pharmacist and a different doctor told me only to wait 8 days after my first dose. Which of these suggestions is more reasonable?
FYI: I started my first dose of zithromax on Friday and I start my next Ortho pill pack on Sunday.
