Son not growing

by low10berg, Jul 18, 2008 05:01PM
I have a 5 year old son who was in the 90th precentile in height until this year.  At his yearly physical he showed no growth in height.  He also has not had any change in his shoe size since March of 2007.  The pediatrician ordered a short stature xray.  The results showed that he had the bones of a 6 year old, 9 months advanced.  We have an appointment with the endocrinologist but she isn't available until November.  Should I be overly concerned by the test results and look to book an appointment with an endocrinologist who can see us sooner?

you should be fine to wait till November, the ped endo needs the previous growth points and these are best done no sooner than 4 months apart. The advanced bone age may simply be overinterpretation of the film by the radiologist or affected by an increased weight in your child. Bring a copy of the bone age xray if you can. You only have 3 months, nothing will change the window of treatment if indeed he needs it.
