Will someone please help me-3rd time I have asked and gotten no answers

by andyvicki, Jul 18, 2008 05:12PM
I am a 28 year old female I started getting headaches when I was pregnant with my second child 3 years ago. The headaches started out weekly, then went to everyother day, then went to the point of daily. These headaches have gotten to the point of affecting my life. When I was pregnant my OB/GYN started me on Fiorcet that worked for a little bit then I had to move on to Midrin. After I had my child my family doctor took over my care for the headaches he prescribe me everything under the sun. I have also tried Imitrex, Relpax, Maxalt, Atenolol, and now I am taking Topamax with Lamictal and I am maxed out on that at 200mg. I have explained to him that it is not migraine headaches you can not have migraines headaches everyday for 3 years finally he ordered an MRI this is the results from it and I am a little confused.
Results:
Ventricles and cerbrospinal fluid spaces are normal in size & configuration for the patient's age. There is no evidence of mass-effect or midline shift. Again noted is a 7 x 9mm lesion within the right frontal periventricular region. This is peripheral T2 prolongation, likely representing incomplete CSF suppression with T1 prolongation. This extends superiorly laterally from the right lateral ventricle.
Impression:
1. Benign appearing nonenhancing periventricular lesion, likely representing porencephalic cyst, dilated Virchow Robins space, or neural glial cyst.
2. No evidence of acute intracranial abnormality

My problem is this after my family doctor had the MRI done I went to a Neurologist he was the one who then maxed out my Topamax to 200mg and then put me on Baclofen. I had to stop taking the Baclofen it made me feel awful but I am still getting headaches, numbness and I know some of that is due to the medicine but I was getting the numbness before the medicine dosage increase. I can not think clearly half of the time I just sit and stare wondering what in the world I was just doing or what I was suppose to do. I have blacked out before and I am just real tired of going to bed with a headache and waking up with an even bigger one. The doctor's diagnosis was that it was something I was born with!!! OK this confused me, if I was born with it then why now is it starting to cause so much problems and can we get rid of it. I guess he had no answer he has to get back with me but I am looking for another doctor in my insurance network that is close and that has not been a easy task. I was wondering if this is something you have heard of and if there is anything else I may be able to do I have tried every OTC medication there is and Tylenol is bad! It gives me a rebound headache like no other. So mostly I take Ibuprofen-- Too much I do believe but I still have the headaches just taking the edge off a little.. Any kind of advice would be helpful thank you so much!!!

I too have had a problem with almost continuous headaches.
I've found a great deal of information while searching for answers.
You can read these articles, and google for more information.

Magnesium for headaches, migraines

Herbs, Vitamins, Minerals and Aromatherapy for Headache

Fish Oil: Fish oil is an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids. These essential oils have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. They also make cell membranes throughout the body less stiff and more flexible.
Two small double blind studies found that high dose fish oil supplements reduced the frequency of headaches in people who chronically suffer. Requires a six week trial.

Hypercoagulation can also contribute to headaches.
Systemic enzyme therapy helped to reduce my headaches.

Wishing you the best,
Carol
