Lump on back of neck

I woke up Saturday morning and got in the shower, I noticed a lump on the back of my neck while washing my hair. The lump had a appeared over night, and is tender to the touch. I am having a hard time distinguishing between it being a knot in my muscles or it being a swollen lymph node. My neck on the right side is very tight and sore. How do I tell the difference and should I go to the doctor??

is it a pimple? If not, you should probably go to the doctor if it doesnt go away in a day or so because no one is going to be able to give you good advice on what you have based on a subjective description.
