When I went into labor with DD#1 I was experiencing a discomfort that I had not had before. I wasn't in pain, but I was hunched over and kept having consistent contractions. I called the oncall doctor and she told me to head over to the hospital because she thought it was time. I had my daughter in the morning.
With DD#2 I paid a LOT more attention to what I was feeling. The night before I was having contractions 9 minutes apart. I debated going to bed or calling and finally decided to just go to bed. I figured I'd wake up if something were to happen (we live 10-15 minutes from hospital).
When I woke up the contractions were still persistent and closer (I think 4-5 minutes?). So I called the oncall doc and he told me to come in (he was suuuuuch a jerk and acted annoyed). He was supposed to call the hospital before I arrived and he didn't. Anyway, I had my daughter that evening!
You will know lol, It's almost impossible not to. The pain is going to be something unlike you have ever felt before (when real contractions start). You will feel you whole tummy go rock solid, like an over blown basketball.
My water never breaks on it's own, but I always knew when it was time by the pain I was in. When it gets to the point where you can't breathe or talk through a cramp....thats a true and painful contraction.
You will be okay my dear, just remember whenever you feel uncomfortable do not hesitate to call your doc, even if he is a bit pissy or rude, it's his job and he will get over it.
Not much longer!!!!!
I am going to see if I can find anything more specific for you and then I will post it here.
Take a look at this. I didn't read much of it, but it looked like something that may be of some help to you.
It was really difficult for me to feel contractions at the beginning. So I'd sit on the couch with my hand on my tummy. Any time I felt my ENTIRE stomach go rock hard, I'd look at the clock and write it down. I'd also write down how long it lasted. Usually baby would have a fit after a contraction (like rolling and pushing because you cannot feel baby during a contraction---your uterus squeezes them).
Don't think worst case scenerio! Trust that your instincts and body know what they are doing!!!
There really isn't anything specific to watch for....as you can see all of mine happened differently....just stay in tune with your body and when in doubt...it's better to be checked and find it was nothing than to wait and wish you had gotten checked.
