question about test number result

by sam7226, Jul 18, 2008 09:38PM
Hi, my girlfriend just got her herpes test results (1gg) and according to her doctor's nurse the positive test was .9 or 0.9, according to my girlfriend. Neither of us have had any obvious outbreaks. We haven't had sex in about 3 years. But that's only speaking for myself.

Is it possible to have a .9 or 0.9? If so, how would you interpret that?

Thanks for your valuable time.

I need to edit the herpes tests results for my above post. I'm sorry. The 1gg was 1.9 for my girlfriend. Isn't that low? And should a re-test be advisable?

Thank you

You haven't specified if it's a hsv1 igg, hsv2 igg or a combined hsv igg. test.  Can you be more specific please?

Also just to clarify - you've never had sex with her so far correct? did you both get general screenings done or something ?

I'm sorry. I was told it's an hsv2 result only. We've had unprotected sex for some years in the past but haven't done anything with her or anybody else in the last 3 or 4 years. You see, a past boyfriend of hers had a first breakout recently after having major surgery. And I was with a girl about 6 years ago, dated her, don't know if she had or has herpes, had unprotected sex a couple of times, even though she was tested at a clinic prior to us having sex (I thought they tested for herpes).

So that's where it all gets blurry. As you know, anybody could have had something for years. I'm waiting for my results, but have had to wait extra time because my doctor's office forget to send off my blood for two days.

Thanks.

At this point the only thing that matters is your own herpes status. Once you get your test results back I can help you with that.

Your ex is going to have to check with her own provider to see if she's ever been tested for herpes before. Her 1.9 result is positive but it can also be a false positive. It' sup to her and her current man to sort thru all that and figure it all out.

When you get your test results - it's most helpful if you just keep adding to this original post. That way it's easy for us to see your whole story :)  thanks!

Hi Grace,

I'm being emotionally strung out with my tests. This morning I got a first batch of tests back, which were tested for five infections and all came back negative according to my fill-in doctor (my actual doctor is gone for the day) and there are no antibodies.( I'm not really clear on what that means)

But he said the other results are still pending that being the actual herpes tests. You gotta be kidding. It's been 7 days. I still have to wait for their phone call on the herpes result.

So,  can anything be gleaned by the lack of antibodies? Or the negative result for infections? I want to be more specific but the doctor on the phone was vague and rushing me.

Thanks Grace

No antibodies for what?

When you talk to the doctor, have him take the time to answer all of your questions.  Don't ever let them rush you off the phone.  Your health care is as important as anyone's.

Its not uncommon for some tests to take longer than others.

Hi Aj,

Thanks for your response. As to the antibodies to what -- I don't know because I simply asked for a herpes test and it turns out all these blood results that I didn't even know I took are coming back and it threw me. I just wanted a simple herpes test. I never knew it was possible for a doctor's office to handle a simple test this badly.

In the sense of not sending the sample out, lying to me about it, giving totally wrong time frames of when the results would come back.

If you get a copy of all the test results, I'd be happy to help you sort it all out.

I'm sorry its been so confusing.  :(  It shouldn't be this hard.

My doctor told me my results are negative (1gg). 8 days later. I'm greatly relieved even though I had no obvious concrete reason to think otherwise (above posts). But you never know.

You're right Aj, it shouldn't be this difficult but it was brutal. I believe that's what happens when an office screws up -- it has a domino effect. They'll tell you the results will come in a couple of days just to appease you because you're upset that they forgot to get the samples out. Then the results don't come and things escalate big-time.

To anyone on the verge of taking tests, make sure they get them off to the lab promptly. I learned the hard way that you can't assume everything is gonna run smoothly.

Also, make certain how long the tests will take. I was told 3 days, which ended up being 8 agonizing days, including the weekend. I learned after the fact that my tests take longer than normal as Aj mentioned.

Thanks Aj. I've learned a great lesson. I never want to go through this again, hence, protection.

Thank you to you and Grace for your assistance and concern. You two are fantastic for giving up your valuable time to help others.

This forum is awesome for all its knowledge. I've learned so much about herpes. I'm going to be visiting just to keep up-to-date on various things.

Keep up the excellent work!

Best Wishes,

Sam
