It is very commonCommon cold to notice a dark line next to the gumline on a crowned toothBroken or knocked out tooth Dental cavities Fractured tooth Tooth abscess Tooth anatomy Toothaches, particularly if the crown is made of porcelain fused to metal. This dark line is the metal of the crown showing through and is normal. I've had a crown for 10 years and noticed this dark line around the base of the crown years ago and wondered what it was also, but my dentist assured me it's very normal and is of no concern. Just one of the joys of having a crown. I assume from what you've described that it's exactly the same thing.
