by caz200, Jul 18, 2008 11:17PM
Hello I have had chest pains for nearly fifteen years that recently have been more recently, I have been on Nexium for nearly two years and I was on Protonix for one year before that. I know that stress, poor eating habits and drinking could be factors however I have limited these factors but still get freuquent  lateral chest pains that feel like stabbing sharp pains, can you offer any help?

If the pain is from bloating, the cause may be a H. pylori infection of stomach, and you need to be tested for it.

If the pain is on the right side, just below the lowest rib, it is probably gallbladder/biliary tract related, and you need to have an ultrasouind.

I had an upper GI test about 3 months ago to test for ulcer or other causes and the Dr. found no signs of it, he did say I had an unusual amount of acid in my stomach and that could be the problem, the pain is in the left and right pectorals.

Can you exactly pin point the pain location? Also, how the pain is related to eating, sleeping and exercise, and if pain is felt after pressuring on the area.

There is no pain during excercise or presure, it comes at anytime of the day or night.

Have you had your heart checked out?   You said your pain was in your pectoral area on both sides?   That would be your upper chest, like above your breast area?    Sounds like you have been being treated for heartburn issues but you may want to have your heart checked out too if you haven't already.  Also, does it hurt on both sides at the same time every time?

It sounds like acid reflux. Test for H. pylori is the first thing you should have.
