Skull base tumor please read

by Rob2008, Jul 19, 2008 11:01AM
I am studying brain tumors and their effects...I would like to know what type of symptoms, aside from headache or visual changes  that the person with this tumor might experience due to the brain compression in this (prefrontal cortex?) area.        Would depersonalization / derealization / jamais vu attacks be a likely presentation of this 3.5 x 2.4 cm (benign/stable) bone tumor in this location?   (I am presuming this is effecting the prefrontal cortex, is this correct?)

Hi there.

The prefrontal cortex of the brain is responsible for controlling behavior, and manifestations of any tumor or problem in this area would include mood and behavior changes that is out of proportion to any given emotional situation.  Psychologic conditions can also be manifested.

The speech area is also located near this region and patients with these tumors may have what is called an expressive aphasia (knows what to say but unable to utter or find the right words).  I believe that visual changes are not fully explained by tumors in these locations and might be due to primary eye problems.
