Severe Mitral Regurgitation w/ symptoms

by dee1015, Jul 19, 2008 11:55AM
I'm a 34 year old female w/ a dual chamber pacemaker implanted 11/07 for sinus node dysfunction, refractory hypertension (hasn't been able to be controlled despite seeing a Hypertension Specialist at the University of Michigan). Last year I had an echo done which indicated mild regurgitation in mitral, aortic and tricuspid valves. Recently had an echo done at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center due to heart murmur and symptoms of Shortness of Breath from exertion and lying down, cough, chest discomfort, fatigue, palpatations and some pretty significant edema in legs, ankles and feet. Echo indicated Severe Mitral Regurgitation w/ thickened anterior leaflet and restricted posterior leaflet and moderate aortic regrgitation. My question is, what should my next step be?

Were you referred for a surgical consult?  When my echo indicated severe regurgitation, I went for a consultation, but turned out to be moderate+ at the most and I was not a candidate for surgery.

Your symptoms certainly could be a result of a worsening valve....What did your doctor say after he received the results?
