HPV recent diagnosis

by jeep04, Jul 19, 2008 01:50PM
My girlfriend was just diagnosed with HPV yesterday.  She had an abnormal pap smear and they tested it and her gyno said that she tested positive for HPV.  We have been together for 1 year and have been having unprotected sex for the past 4 months. We don't know what to do.  Do we start to use condoms again?  Or if she has been diagnosed with it I read in a past post that I already have it.

i take it ur g-friend has the high risk?it is inconsequential to u for it will leave ur system...u will show no symptoms unless u have low risk.....but for her high risk camps out on cervix and has to be removed or they watch it to see if it will leave on its own.no use in using condoms u already have it.

Thanks for the reply. I have some updated information My girlfriend has been pretty much in the dark and her gyno has not been much help. She went to her GP since she was not getting much help.  He told her that she has high risk HPV.  What does that mean?  She has to go next week to get her cervix scraped(not sure the word for it).   Thanks you so much again for your last reply, you have helped me more than words can express.

ur very welcome....high risk is a strain of this insidious virus that goes and camps on on her cervix causing abnormalities and left unmonitored/untreated can go in2 cervical cancer. It sounds like she's going to get a colposcopy which scrapes the abnormal tissue and surrounding area to get an idea of how to proceed from here.....sometimes they do whats called a LEEP......i had that......removal/burning...or sometimes they will watch it 2 see if it goes away on its own.
