How do I cure eye infection & joint inflammation caused by Chlamydia?

by PeterMan, Jul 19, 2008 06:49PM
Dear Dr,

I was diagnosed with Chlamydia 3 months ago, I went on using doxycycline(100mg x 2 daily; for 7 days) about  5weeks ago. I also used Zithromycin(1g in a single dose) about 3 weeks ago. I haven't got retested for Chlamydia yet, but my eye infection & inflamation in my joints have not gone away.

Do I only have to treat Chlamydia & all the other symptons will go away with the Chlamydia??

Please help, it is affecting all areas of my life in a negative way.

Have you seen a doctor about your eye and joints?

There is a simple test a doctor can do to see if you have a chlamydial eye infection, and they can talk to you about treating the pain in your joints.

Its not at all usual to get symptoms like this from chlamydia, so you should also be open to exploring other causes.

Its really important that you follow up if you think you have chlamydia in your eye.

I sounds like you may have Reiter`s syndrome, which is an inflammatory process after having Chlamydial infection. This can happen even after treatment. The treatment for this is more involved. Your Doctor should be following you for this. You may need referral to a rheumatologist or arthritis specialist. Take care
