Not again, irregular mamo

by pinkhope, Jul 19, 2008 07:10PM
I am a breast cancer survivor, 2 years.  My recent mamo showed a cluster of sub-linear calcifications.  The radiologist said they should be removed and/or biopsied for cancer.  He also said that they could be the beginning of necrosis, which I am prone to.  What are calcifications???  Should I be as concerned with these as he seemed to suggest?
Ready to panic!  Thank you for any input.

Hi,

How are you?
Breast calcifications are minute deposits of calcium in the breast. They are usually benign but if they occur in clusters or have irregular margins they may raise a suspicion of malignancy.
Breast calcifications generally show up on the mammogram as tiny white spots and are classified as micro calcifications or macro calcifications depending on the amount of calcium deposited.
Do let me know if you need more information. Take care!
