Gamma Globulin and the late 60 early 70s

by RJGCEDARS, Jul 19, 2008 07:45PM
Thank you all for being here-knowing that is a big comfort.

Someone mentioned the other day about contacting Hep c after receiving a Gamma Globulin Shot.
I received a shot around 1955 I was 7. My mom had Hep B and I do remember that mother hurting.
Cut to 1960s and 70s where I was a participant in IV drug use and other things that cause infection.
I am geno 2b undected since wk 2 and have remained that way after multiple test. I just finished 15/24.
My paranoia now when my fog lifts is it possible to catch two strains of hep C and only one gets picked by a test and gets treated. The other type lies somewhere only to rear up once treatment has stopped. Hope I am making sense.
Again thanks

It is possible to have two strains of hepc.  Nygirl had both 1a and 1b.  When they did your hep panel to determine your genotype if you were infected with any other strain besides 2b it would have shown up at that time.  If by chance you had a genotype 1 as well and they didn't pick it up, it's highly unlikely you would have cleared the virus at 2 wks.  It is much harder to eradicate the virus for geno 1's.  That is why they treat a minimum of 48 wks.  If you had genotype 3 additionally and they didn't pick it up you still become UND so I would not worry about it.  You can get reinfected with hepc even if you SVR or you can relapse but I think you are fine and shouldn't worry.

Your question does make sense, but I think that they DO catch different genotypes in one person, as it has been documented before.  I wouldn't be too concerned if I were you.  I'm a geno 2 as well, and with similar circumstances as yours, so I would not be able to identify where or how, I really got this.  Could have been from my own brother's clippers, as we're both guitar playing musicians and bleed from fingers on occasion.

I would rest easy, I'm in your boat, could've been anywhere, and different times and places. They picked up a 2b, and that will be my treatment protocol.  I'll be praying for your SVR, hang in there.
