Treatment options for Neurocardiogenicsyncope

by Billmoody, Jul 20, 2008 05:32PM
My wife recently had a fainting spell. she has always had low blood pressure. At first one doctor thought she had Addisons disease due to low cortisol levels. She responded well to the cortisol test she was given in the hospital..She was released and told to follow up with her doctor, who did an E.K.G. wich was ok. He then sent her for a stress and tilt table tests. The stress test showed when her heart rate rose her blood pressure droped. After fainting on the tilt table (without the adrenaline medication)  they called down the oncall cardioligst who diagnosed her with Neuro cardiogenic syncope. he put her on 10mg of midodrine three times a day.Since she has been on this medication, she is expeiencing more freqent symptoms along with severe side effects. After taking each dose she gets light headed, dizzy, lower back pain near her kidneys, tingling and itchy scalp, tingling of the face hands and legs, pressure and pounding in the temples along with racing heart beat. Among other things. when we called the doctors office to tell them about her symtoms they said to continue the midodrine that it should go away with time but it seems to be getting worse to the point she has to lye down after taking it.Our question is what other tests can we request and what other treatment options do we have if this is the problem. I thank you for any information you can help us with.

                                                                                                                           Sincerely,
                                                                                                                        The Moody Family

Hi Billmoody,

I can't offer much information, but I do know that you may also find answers and support on the Dysautonomia forum.  Here's the link in case you're interested.  The Community Leader is "Halbashes" and she understands a lot about this type of problem.
