Rice Cereal

by Linzola1, Jul 20, 2008 05:48PM
I am just wandering when it is safe to introduce Rice Cereal to my son... I have been told different things by different people. I have also heard that it will help my son sleep through the night. What is everyones oppinion on this?

Also for future refrence since my son is on Prosobee Lipil. Is that going to change how to mix the cereal. I know you use the formula to mix the rice cereal with so I dont think it will change the preperation of it... This may sound stupid but I was just wandering

i heard it doensnt help a baby sleep through the night but just help if they have reflux.

its up to his doctor really when its time. how old is he?

dominics doctor said about 4 months for formula fed babies, and 6 months for breastfed babies.

nevermind i see your son just only turned 1 month old. i would wait about at least 3 more months!

their systems have to develope a little bit more and its not going to help them to sleep at night

like kim said, you can start as early as 4 months for formula fed babies, 6 months for breastfed babies. but just because you can doesn't mean you should- it is definitely something to discuss with your doc when the time nears. some babies, such as constipated babies, may do better waiting longer. cereal before the age of one is not to fill a baby, so it does not help them sleep. i started cereal around 6 months and saw no difference in her sleeping patterns. that comes with maturity. since cereal is harder to digest than formula/breast milk, it may even make it harder for the baby to sleep.

My son was 4m3wk when my dr told me to start introducing cereal and fruits once a day.

You can add more or less formula depending on what texture you want it.  I would start off with it pretty runny.
