cspine MRI & nnodules

by mtm1215, Jul 20, 2008 06:08PM

I had an MRI done due to pain in my left shoulder.......Below are results. Can someone explain them to me in English?

My primary doc suggested I go see a neurosurgeon but I won't be able to until Sept.

Do you think surgery will be suggested?

I recently found out that I have hasimotos and hypothroidism as well as 2 thyroid nodules each are the size of 1.5 CM.

I was put on 50mc of synthroid......I go back Aug 5th to find out if the meds are working and if the nodules shrunk in size.

I'm not sure if neck surgery would be possible with the 2 thyroid nodules in my neck.

Does anyone have any thoughts??????

Thanks sooo much!!

c3-4 : There is a small to moderate sized focal central disc protrusion which is slightly effacing the anterior thecal sac but not compressing or effecting the cord. I don't see foraminal narrowing.

c4-5 this level is unmarkable.

c5-6 : there is a somewhat broad right proximal forminal disc protrusion moderaate to large in size. This appears to be encroaching on the exiting c6 nerve root. This is also narrowing the right side of the thecl sac and pushing on the cord slightly.

c6-7 there is a small central disc protrusion which is only minimally effacing the anterior thecal sac.

Regarding C5-C6 you have a disc protruding  which is touching the C-6 nerve root.

Sounds like you need to visit a neurosurgeon.

I have been hypothyroid most of my life.  I was diagnosed in the third grade and had a goiter.  I take .175 mg of Levoxyn daily (Generic brand for thyroid replacement).  Your thyroid medication is on the low end of the dosage side.

I have had two cervical spine surgeries and they were performed from the front of the neck away from the thyroid.  If this were an issued, they also perform this surgery from behind the neck which is better, but more painful, because your vocal cord can be paralyzed permanently from the anterior surgery (which is what happened to me).
