Very Odd Symptoms

by comicpants, Jul 20, 2008 07:47PM
Alright, here's the problem (I do plan on seeing a doctor, I just want some more opinions. It's a comfort thing.)

I am 20 years old, going on 21.
I don't have the best diet in the world, but I try to get plenty of fiber and fruit. I generally avoid red meats and eat only  things like chicken and fish. I am 5'11" and weigh 179lbs. My resting heart rate is generally 84 bpm, and has been for years. Blood pressure is usually 120/70 or 60. It's been 120/50 and 120/80 a few times, but some of those times I was ill. I have PTS (post traumatic stress disorder), bipolar, and tend to suffer from panic attacks. I've had a history of: Hayfever, chronic bronchitis, chronic sinus infection, ear infection, and fluid in the lungs (usually from some sort of bacterial infection). I am otherwise healthy and take Clatitin D and occasionally Guaifenesin.  There is a very large history of heart disease/high blood pressure in my family. So, I'm a tad scared right now.

So, here we go: Strange symptoms:

It all started about . . . 2 days ago. The really bad stuff, anyways. The dizziness started maybe 3-4 days ago. I am currently babysitting a 2 year old who contracted some sort of viral infection. It caused him to have a runny nose and he coughed a lot. As far as fever, he never seemed to have one.

So, he has this "cold" or whatever it is for about week and three days. When he starts feeling better, I start feeling worse. Normally, I can exercise for about 30-40 minutes EVERY day, but since these symptoms started, I can't even do 10 pushups without feeling like I'm going to keel over. On Saturday night I went for a walk and my lungs just totally tightened up and my throat felt like it swelled up. I went home as quickly as possible and took a puff of albuterol. I didn't seem to have an asthma attack, but I could be wrong.

After this, my heart started racing, or it felt like it. When I went to the ER my blood pressure was normal, my bmp were 84, just as usual. However, I can still feel my heartbeat in my head, in my throat, and my chest (and back) and my left arm. I've had pains/numbness/tingling in my left arm for about 3 years. After this "attack" I have been severely dizzy, hardly any appetite, the top of my throat gets sharp pains, my left ear and jaw seem to be having some sharp pains, and my heart is still pounding in my chest.

I took my BPM earlier, and I counted 110 bmp, but it slowed back down. I took it again, just now and it seems to be down to 96 BPM.

I have been taking Claritin D for the past 24 hours. Could it really be this that's making my heart race? The allergy meds seem to make my "sinus" headache go away for a while, but it tends to come back.

I feel like I'm going cross eyed sometimes, I get tired in the middle of the day, and when I lie down I can feel my heartbeating everywhere. I'm so dizzy when I lie down, it feels like I'm falling backwards.

I haven't really been eating a lot, because I haven't felt like it.

Can someone see what's wrong? Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, or maybe I'm looking too hard. The palpitations don't hurt, they're just unnerving. My left shoulder, back and neck hurt kinda dully, but they hurt more after exertion: Lifting, walking too fast, blah blah blah.

My mother had Thyroid disease. Should I get that checked too?

I just want to know who I should see to get this resolved.

It is scary when you get these syptoms, especially the palpitations, firstly get checked out at your Doctors, this will put your mind at ease ,on reading your Post I thnk you could have been having a Panic attack or Anxiety ,both can make you feel bad and you can get physical symptoms. The other thing is the Allergy Meds, they can have side effects and you may want to stop the Claritan and see if you feel better,if you need a med ask your Doc.The fact you are worrying about your Health shows there is some Anxiety, how is the rest of your life going are you anxious in other Areas, work or College okay. Maybe make sure you are busy not dwelling on Negative thought, our little Brains conjure up all kinds of stuff for us to dwell on .When you go into one of those overthinking times ,think about the neg thought for a minute then let it go and distract yourself doing something else.

I went to the doc and he told me that the left arm pain is Tendonitis. He made me do all this crazy stuff with my left arm, and it hurt a lot. I'm still having the "aware of my heartbeat" feeling, especially at night or when I get up to move around. Breathing deeply seems to help me forget it. So does drawing (I'm an artist).

He listened to my heart with a stethoscope and said it sounded perfectly normal, my blood pressure was 124/70 (which is fine), and resting my heart rate is 80-84 (which is my norm).

My neck has been sore, especially on the left side, when I touch it too.

The dizziness continues, although it was made better with nasal decongestant and some antihistimines. I have a history Asthma, so I got a new inhaler, and the dizziness went away when I used it.

Should I see a cardiologist? I'm still afraid that my heart could be the cause.
