memory loss

My father has suddenly started to struggle to hold a conversation, he is finding it very hard to think of words to respond to a conversation this has literally come on over the last 3 days. He is 86 years of age, and has not shown these symptoms before. He is getting depressed, a doctor has prescribed drugs for a water infection, but I am struggleing to see the connection between the 2. Can anybody help!

i'm not sure what you mean by "water infection", do you mean a urinary tract infection(UTI)? if so, confusion is the number one signs of a UTI in the elderly. It is very common, but can be frightening for the family of the patient because it may appear that they've had a minor stroke because of the sudden onset of confusion like you described. i hope that this helps to calm some of your anxieties!
