carpal tunnel and normal EMG's

by mandy197, Jul 21, 2008 09:04AM
Can carpal tunnel be present yet not show up on an EMG/nerve study?  I have the pins and needles in Rt thumb, index and middle fingers on and off and color changes in hand at times along with some pain but no SEVERE pain that some folks describe.  I have Hashimoto's thyroid disease and am on Levothyroxine (good TSH and free T4 levels at this time).  I've had a couple of EMG's and nerve conduction studies in the last year and they were normal.  I've read threads from other hypothyroid people having normal EMG's too despite carpal tunnel type signs.  Is this normal?  Does surgery alleviate the clinical signs for folks like us or does it only help if the EMG findings are abnormal?
