Need Alternative Suggestions for Recovery

by Tink70, Jul 21, 2008 09:19AM
OTAY!  I am a stanch AAer but a precious friend of mine who was in the program for about a year then relapsed for about 10 months finally hit another bottom on Thursday and we put him in detox!  He wants the recovery but he has a real bad taste in his mouth with AA. (Very bad sponsor the first go around!)  I firmly believe that he will find his way back to AA cause I've seen the program work even through his relapse (frankly - the only reason he wasn't out there as long this time was BECAUSE of having a head 1/2 way full of AA and a belly full of booze but thats entirely my opinon) but he needs something else for a little bit.  SO!  I need some suggestions for him.
I found some links to Rational Recovery (this doesn't sit well with ME but it ain't ME we are talkin' about!) and I found some links to something called Radical Recovery which is Native American based.  What else is there that is not AA based?  And he isn't into ANYTHING religious so don't even send me anything remotely religious like that Beatitudes thingy...
He comes out of detox on Wed or Thursday and I would like to be able to bring him some info.
Thanks a bunch!

Gee that's a tough one.  All i know is AA and I have flubbed up a couple times in as many months, but just keep getting back on that horse!  There is a place in Seattle, look it up on the web, they have a technique, sounded weird to me but the people who posted said it worked..  Maybe he needs to be in rehab a month or two and then AA and it sure would help him to know Yes there is a GOD.  He helps me everryday but doesn't take my willpower from me, thus i mess up.  Hope your friend makes it. He has been in rehab.  Thats where we met! LOL  He knows there is a God but he just can't seem to grab hold of the spiritual concept of the program.  I know and you know that it is a matter of time on that one but he doesn't get it yet....He will eventually find it but he needs something else to help him to that point.
