If you believe you might have been exposed to HIV and want help to judge your risk, would like advice about HIV testing, or have questions about the effectiveness of condoms or the risks associated with specific sexual practices, this is the site for you.

Hi Dr.
I had an accident on June 18th 2008. The condom broke and he ejaculated in me. I have been really stressed out these past weeks and cant stop thinking about HIV. I heard rumors after the incident that he might've messed with someone who might have HIV. Like I said these are rumors. I asked him if he was HIV+ he said no, but u know many people are not gonna be truthful. I havent had any fever but i do have a rash it itches sometimes, it looks flat and thats it,they are not red, maybe a bit lighter than my skin color sometimes they're gone but when i think about this issue i see them again. All day I'm checking to see if I see anymore rash. I took an HIV test on Friday the July 18th. It came out negative. I want to know did i take the test too early and what does the reash associated with ARS look like? Also do I have to have all the symptoms of ARS and would the test came out positive being that I may have symptoms?

You have little to worry about. You tested at a good time when 85-90% of persons who had been infected will have positive tests. Thus, if you had gotten HIV, chances are that your test would be positive by now. The chances that you got HV however are very low even before you got tested. Here’s why:
1. Most people do not have HIV and most people do tell the truth.
2. If he had HIV, the chance of a single exposure infecting you is less than 1 in 1000.
The Ora Quick is a fine test.
Finally, forget about the rash - it is not ARS. It is too long after your exposure to be ARS and there are other symptoms associated with it. My advice, take a deep breath, stop obsessively examining yourself and appreciate that you are more likely to be hit by lightening this afternoon than to have HIV. Repeat your test in a month or so to be 100% sure you do not have it if you wish but my confident advice is not to worry. EWH

I woke up this morning and had diarrhea out of the blu....I am really terrified now...I got my period yesterday, hopefully thats whats causing the diarreah but i am terrified..so far been to the bathroom 4 times....i cant wait for these weeks to pass.
