post Strabismus surgery scar

by jen122, Jul 21, 2008 12:02PM
I had adjustible suture strabismus surgery on june 4th, 2008. It was to correct an aquired exotropia. Now my eye is overcorrected with esotropia now. I am 42 and this was my 5th surgery . I now have a horrible raised, red, bumpy scar on the inner, white part of my eye. My doctor will do further surgery to remove it but will it come back? I was put on pred-forte and tobradex after the june surgery., Did these steriods cause this scar? What can be done so it doesn't come back. Thanks, I am really depressed about this.

The steroids reduce inflammation and help to try and prevent scars and inflammation. Every time you have another surgery you likely have bigger risks of excessive scarring. That is risks increase each additional surgery.

Thank you for clearing up my steroid question. In your opinion can these post-surgical scars  be successfully excised without reformation? Is there anything that can be done to prevent reformation of this particular scar?  I know you can't see my scar, but I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

No the more tissue is operated on the less normal it is and the more problem scar formation is.  Steroids are about all we have.
