Diarhea 6 days and counting for 2 year old

by SweetyRocks, Jul 21, 2008 12:19PM
My question is, my daughter who is 2 years and 4 months old has had diarhea and mucus and tiny bit of blood in her stool for 6 days now, i have been to the dr yesterday and she told me as long as she has no fever and is not dehydrated not to be alarmed. She goes through at least 20 diapers a  day she is in pain in her tummy its so hard for me to sit back thinking its nothing. Oh she also said it was a stomach virus, wouldnt we all have this in our family if this was the case? Could it be more of a food allergy? I just would like to know when to worry, the stuff she told me to pick up to stop the diarhea is not helping at all. HELP please i need some suggestions.

Was also told not to give her milk but if i dont at least 2-3 times a day she will freak scream and absolutly drink nothing else, how can i keep her hydrated if i take that away from her?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I went through a similar situation with my 9 month old son. He had diarriah with mucous and a little bit of blood in the stool.i called the doctor and they pretty much said the same thing that it was a virus. well it went on for a month, until finally they decided to take some stool samples. once the results came back from the stool samples which were all negative meaning he did not have anything severely wrong with him. his diarriah just stopped.i talked to another doctor who said that sometimes diarriah can last about 2 to 4 weeks and there was no need to be alarmed.so i don't really know what was wrong, but it went away i know thats probably not helpful to you, but i would hold out for another week and if the diarriah still persists demand they take some tests just to be on the safe side. as for not feeding your daughter milk - you should try to give her gatorade or pedialyte, which puts the electrolytes back in her body and give her milk- just enough to make her happy and to keep you sane.
