Meat and Dairy

by mltina, Jul 21, 2008 01:33PM
My daughter is 10months old and she has never been a good eater. I recently discoved that if she does like the taste of her food, I just add yogurt and she'll eat it all. Now, I have been told my someone not to mix dairy products and meat as the calcium in the dairy and the iron in the meat cancel each other out out so the baby gets nothing in the end. Please advise if this is only a myth or there is some truth to it.

Thanks

Calcium does interfere with Iron absorption, however, if you give her vegetables / fruit with the meal the Vitamin C will help with Iron absorption. The benefit of getting your daughter to eat her food out weights the possible loss of a small amount of Iron. If you are very concerned then keep her on child multi-vitamins with iron.
