Med Help: Missing Post on Diet ?

by jmjm530, Jul 21, 2008 01:42PM
There was a new thread recently opened regarding a weight-loss question.  I answered the poster's question  and now the thread has disappeared.

So, unless I'm having a senior moment, I'm assuming the thread was deleted by Med Help because it was either considered off topic or because I gave a link to the South Beach Diet site.

As to off topic, and we've had this discussion before --  losing weight, especially belly fat, is probably one of themost constructive non-pharmaceutical things any of us can do for our liver, be it pre-treatment or post treatment. And because lower BMI is associated with SVR, losing weight can actually give some individuals a better chance at SVR.

As to providing a link to the South Beach site, this is a diet that a number of doctors have recommended -- in fact, developed it was by a cardio -- so I don't see why that would be a problem when nutritional sites are linked all the time here.

Anyway, if the poster is still around, just google "South Beach Diet" and you should find a link to the site.

Personally, I've been on a similar diet the past six weeks or so, and have lost ten pounds, but more importantly have normalized both blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and hopefully have sucked any harmful fat from my liver if some was there.

For those unaware, fatty liver can potentially accelerate fibrosis faster than the virus itself and that is why a proper diet -- and these diet threads -- are so important on a HCV forum.

I responded as well by asking him if it was 70 kilo's which equates to 154 lb or if it was 70 lbs because 5'4" and 70 lbs. is either anorexic or a very serious health problem.  Then it went away, never to be seen again.  Why would medhelp delete that question when we get some really screwball questions at times?  No, not a senoir moment this time anyway

Well, I found the thread, only it appears to have been moved to the "weight loss" forum by Med Help. http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/80

This is unfortunate because it was originally posted in this forum, and that is where I assume the original poster would look for an answer --  not to mention that this is a relevant topic to everyone here for reasons mentioned above.

Phew! Don't need any more senior moments LOL. I assumed that the poster meant 170 pounds, not "70", given the question and  height/weight stated. Or, perhaps it was kilos like you suggest.

the weird thing is that when you open it it goes back into the hep c community. I think there is something really wrong with the links of the forum.

Unless your name is "Jambay" (see thread: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/575670)
I don't think you're the fella who posted the weight loss question. Furthermore, my heart rate monitor shows me still alive, but thanks for the concern :)

Didn't eat "panfuls of bacon and eggs" before treatment or after, but yes -- I certaintly did eat that way *during* treatment -- good memory!!!

The reason was because I experienced significant weight loss on treatment and needed all the calories I could get to keep me from wasting away and on treatment. Also, as many have reported, I experienced extreme taste alterations and most of the foods I enjoy now -- fish and vegetables for example -- made me nauceous just to think about. Eating on treatment for me was more survival than anything else. But oh, I do miss those cheese omelet, bacon and home fries breakfasts - about the only thing on treatment I do miss :)

Sorry to hear about the missing post. Maybe they're trying to lighten up on the threads around here? ;-) Congrats on the 10lb loss, hope the six pack is coming back.

Thanks. It's nice to take control of your body, lipid values and blood pressure, without rx drugs. I was "playing around" with diet for awhile, but what worked was to really hunker down with a system that worked for me. Your post awhile back certainly helped in terms of motivation. After peg and riba, these lifestyle changes are a breeze, if you know what I mean. Hope you keep it off yourself, but you know how to get rid of the fat should it return. Of course a plan you can maintain is ideal, but you'll probably figure that out when you get to be my age and find out that the body doesn't bounce back quite as fast :)

Thanks Deb and hope all is well with you. Haven't been around too much so maybe you can update me on how things are going as I know you had your share of problems.

My husband has lost a little over 70 pounds  ( in 6 months ), going from 240 to his currant 168 . He is not on any medication at all , aside from herbal things we use and other than being more tired than usuall is still in great health.  I attribute the sudden weight loss to the herbal remedies we take , and his change in eating habits , less junk food and more nutritional foods.  Prior to that he was at 5'10" so actually overweight. He is having some issues with food digestion now though .

He has both B and C ( for about 10 years ) and I now have been diagnosed with C ( test show I have had this for about 6 months so of corse no symptoms yet.) , and am thaking vacinations for the B.

My weight is 102 and I'm 5'2" , keeping weight on has been a problem for me for years .

But to the origional poster , I do agree that keeping a handle on your weight is a good thing under any circumstances , and in piticular when dealing with a serious illness . So no , I think your comments about "weight " most definantly apply here.

Ahhh, seems Jm and mrmeet have always been a little competitive, so looks like all is right with the world eh?

you know, since we aren't moderated forums, they need to quit moderating us unless we have a problem and specificly ask for something to be removed for whatever reason, and that doesn't happen too often
