Is tapering better then ct?

by Laura20, Jul 21, 2008 02:45PM
I have been tapering  down & seem stuck @ 6 for next few days.I keep going back & forth about just being done with this & going ct. I must admit though I feel a lot better when I go slower. Ther were days I could'nt stand the emotional swings, depression & not sleeping. I currently am sick with sinus infection so I am sick anyhow. I just don't know anymore. When I do stop will the tapering help with physcal & mental stuff ?

It comes down to whatever works for you. Some people can taper, most cannot without strong support. My way would be a rapid taper, like cut dose in half daily for a few days, then just quit. Stretch it out, or get it over as soon as possible is the reality of that choice.

Hi Laura!  I think the taper helps if you can do it because it basically tricks your body into thinking the pills are still there.  You are going to have a few w/d symptoms but with tapering it is much milder than the ct.  However, what works for each of us is a little different.  I tapered and had the biggest w/d after the first taper since I went to 1/2 right away and then much slowly after that.  If you're sick anyway, you're probably taking some nyquil, etc for the sinus thing and that will help overall.  Mostly you just need time and patience to not give up.  Hang in there and feel better soon!

I wouldn't suggest CT. I am 2 days in, and I feel terrible. I couldn't imagine being sick along with this. But, who knows... good luck!

You're right about that. Nobody is for c/t while they are in the first few days. It's like finding an atheist on a battlefield. Ain't gonna happen. You'll be better in a couple of days. Good luck to you, and hang in there.

Thank you. Sometimes it hard to see the progress we've made until someone points it out. I just did'nt realize it would take this long. I feel it in my bones too  Oh wait thats the wd LOL. Yes I have been going over all the reasons I got here & finding out what my triggers are.Knowledge is power & the more power I have to deal with this the better off I will be to beat it!

I think you are doing great too!  You really have come a long way from where you started so give yourself the credit you deserve.  I wouldn't CT it, especially while you are sick to begin with.  I know that Avisg suggests a very slow taper.  Try contacting her and ask for her wise input.  If you just cut 1/2 or 1 pill every 4 days or so it may work out for you.  Just keep your goal in mind, and don't give up!
