atypical pap test but negative hpv

by jenna705, Jul 21, 2008 03:11PM
I am 27 and had my first atypical pap test result but negative a HPV reading last December. The same results showed up six months later on my second tests.  Now I am scheduled to have a colposcopy in three weeks.  Since my HPV came back negative both times, and I can rule out STD's (I have only been with my husband who had two previous partners but was tested for STD's) what could account for the atypical results?  Is it possible that I had HPV at one time but my body fought it off and now it's not showing up in the test?

This may be jumping the gun, but my main concern is fertility because we had just starting trying to get pregnant.  I know that the colposcopy isn't supposed to impact fertility, but I have heard mixed opinions on follow-up treatments.

Any feedback or advice that you could share would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
