what help is out there?

my son is going in hospital for an operation next month on both of his legs, we have asked our social worker is there help out there for us as parents/carers. we also spoke to our physio she told us he has to learn to walk again and it may take a year for him to get back to some normallity, both of them have told us that there is no support there for us at all. is this correct?
