Asymptomatic Chlamydia that leads to minor epidydimitis

by davidson01, Jul 21, 2008 07:05PM
Two general to the point questions:

1. What is the likelihood of asymptomatic chlamydia (no discharge, no pain in urination, no swelling, etc) causing minor epidydimitis (very minor discomfort in my genitals, no swelling, no tenderness, etc) 3 days after having unprotected sex? ie, I had unprotected sex and 3 days later, started to develop a slight discomfort in genital area that is only present while sitting, and goes away when I stand up.  Is it likely that I contacted chlamydia from her and it developed into minor epidydimitis within 3 days?

Most of the things I have read on here from Dr. HHH is that chlamydia symptoms won't develop for 7-10 days.  It seems to me that epidydimitis would be a secondary symptom caused by a bacterial backup, and 3 days would be a fairly rapid development of that symptom.

2. What is the likelihood that undiagnosed, asymptomatic chlamydia (again, no discharge, pain, etc) I may have contacted 6 weeks ago from unprotected sex, would lie dormant for 6 weeks, lead to the same very minor epidydimitis 6 weeks later, and not produce a heightened level of WBC in my urine?  I understand that anything is possible, I'm curious how likely it is....

It seems to me that if chlamydia were to lead to epidydimitis, it would do so because of the infection or bacteria associated with the disease.  And if that bacteria were prevalent enough to cause epidydimitis, it should be reflected in a WBC count.  Is this sound logic?  I understand that a standard UA and WBC count are inconclusive and I'm awaiting the results from the official STD test.  Just driving myself crazy with guilt and anxiety while waiting.

Thanks A LOT for the help.

Also....is there a general timetable it takes for chlamydia to lead to Epididymitis?  ie...never less than a week? usually 2-3 weeks, a month?  just a ball park estimate

Hi there -

If there is a timetable, I'm not aware of it.  I'm also not aware of any studies that show a % chance of it developing into epididymitis.  That's uncommon to begin with, so overall, the best I can do is say its not likely, especially within that time frame.
